In July 2020, a photographer captured Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) rising over the Adriatic Sea in Italy. The resulting time-lapse video combines over 240 images taken over 30 minutes, showcasing the comet against a backdrop of noctilucent clouds and stars.
The comet, known as the Great Comet of 2020, was visible to the unaided eye and remained unexpectedly bright for over a month. The photographer was awake before sunrise on July 8th to capture the dramatic sight.
Comet NEOWISE is an inner-Solar System intruder with a nucleus spanning about five kilometers across. Its ion and dust tails were visible in the images, creating a striking visual display.
