New Zealand’s Black Mandala has secured worldwide sales rights to three horror films – “Within Madness,” “Vessel,” and “The Thirteenth Gate” – all written and directed by J. M. Stelly. The deal includes international distribution and audience development for the films, which share cast members and a production label.
All three films were produced by J. M. Stelly alongside Johnny Stassi through Anatomica Films. The agreement between Black Mandala and Anatomica Films was negotiated by Stelly and Black Mandala co-founder Michael Kraetzer.
“Within Madness” is based on true events, detailing the aftermath of filmmaker Mark Chapel and Donovan Summers’ arrest. The investigation uncovers evidence of violence, including “The Sacrament of Bondage,” a film documenting Summers’ descent into brutality and early crimes. The film stars Jared Bankens, Matt Story, Keegan Macy, and Jamie Nipe.
“Vessel” centers on pastor Joseph, whose faith is tested after the disappearance of his wife, Mary, and their unborn child. The film explores themes of grief and a sinister force attempting to enter the world. Keegan Macy, Jamie Nipe, and Dane Rhodes feature in the cast.
“The Thirteenth Gate” follows investigator Nathan Hale, who awakens in an abandoned industrial complex with no memory of how he arrived. While searching for his missing wife, Marissa, Hale experiences a nightmarish reality warped by his memories and trauma, orchestrated by a figure known as M, attempting to unlock thirteen gates to the ethereal plane. Jeff Pearson, Jamie Nipe, and Keegan Macy also star.
Michael Kraetzer stated, “We’re incredibly happy to be working with such an outstanding and unique filmmaking talent and look forward to building the international success of these very special titles together.” He emphasized the films’ distinctive atmospheres and visions, describing the collaboration as a chance to connect with genre audiences. Kraetzer added, “We’re proud to welcome ‘Vessel,’ ‘Within Madness’ and ‘The Thirteenth Gate’ to the Black Mandala lineup,” and expressed anticipation for presenting the films internationally and building their audience.
