The Battle Creek Enquirer is accepting votes for the Bronson Battle Creek Boys Athlete of the Week, covering performances from September 7-12. Several athletes are nominated for their achievements in cross country, football, and soccer.
Christian Ayres of Harper Creek Cross Country finished first at the Harper Creek Optimist Invitational with a time of 17:30.8, helping his team win the event with three of the top five finishers.
Battle Creek Central Football quarterback Lee Campbell Jr. was a key player in a historic, high-scoring game against Mattawan, which ended 77-76. Campbell Jr. scored eight total touchdowns, including seven rushing, and gained 138 yards on 26 carries.
Karson Lewis of Lakeview Cross Country finished second at the Lakeview Invitational with a season-best time of 16:11.15, contributing to Lakeview’s second-place team finish.
Adrian Mejia of Lakeview Soccer scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Battle Creek Central, bringing Lakeview’s win total to six, matching their total from the previous year.
Fans can vote for their favorite athlete until Wednesday at 5 p.m., with the winner featured in a spotlight story in the Sunday edition of the Battle Creek Enquirer.
