Entertainment industry executives discussed how artificial intelligence can move beyond individual experiences to create communal engagements by tapping into existing content libraries. Warner Bros. Discovery and Nvidia are exploring AI applications to personalize and expand fan interactions at live events and through digital tools.
During Variety’s Entertainment & Technology Summit, panelists highlighted the untapped potential within companies’ content archives. Shari Reich, Nvidia’s Global Head of Audio and Music Developer Relations, stated, “You have companies sitting on crown jewels,” referring to digitized demos, video snippets, and millions of tracks often stored unused. Reich believes unlocking this content is key to gaining new fan experiences and discovery.
Simon Robinson, Warner Bros. Discovery’s president of Global Experiences and Studio Operations, detailed how the company is integrating AI into its live experiences. At the Burbank studio tour, the robot “Gary” from the upcoming Superman film currently offers about 15 minutes of programmed interaction. Robinson explained that AI could personalize interactions with Gary or the Sorting Hat from the “Harry Potter” franchise on a guest-by-guest basis. However, the ultimate goal is to foster shared experiences, referencing the popularity of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, where “10 million people didn’t buy a ticket to see Taylor Swift to have their own experience. They did it to be in a stadium with 10,000, 12,000 other people enjoying that moment.”
Reich also discussed Spotify’s AI-powered DJ tool and an upcoming AI remix tool, noting that personalized tools allowing fans to engage with and share songs represent a promising avenue for AI in music. Vamsi Duvvuri, EY Americas’ AI leader of its Technology, Media and Entertainment and Telecommunications division, also participated in the panel.
